Fairness in Divorce Protects Your Future

Recently, I had the opportunity to work with a couple who came to me for divorce mediation. Like many couples, they agreed on many issues, but hit a roadblock when it came to determining child support and spousal support. Through careful guidance, I helped them navigate these discussions. We met together as a group through video conferencing, and at other times I used breakout rooms to allow them to voice their concerns privately. In the end, we were able to reach a fair agreement that both parties felt comfortable with.

Another sticking point was the value of their family home. One spouse wanted to buy the other out, but they couldn’t agree on a buyout price. To resolve this, we obtained an inexpensive and fair appraisal and found a middle ground. This approach allowed both parties to feel they had secured a fair deal, without the need for endless negotiations or courtroom drama.

What made this mediation truly effective was the fact that both parties were able to maintain an amicable relationship, which is especially important when children are involved. By coming to an agreement that felt just and balanced, they were able to move forward with their lives, emotionally and financially stable.

Best of all, they avoided the steep costs of litigation, saving what could have easily been $15,000 to $20,000 per person in attorney’s fees and court costs. With over 15 years of litigation experience as a family law attorney in both Ventura and Los Angeles counties, I know firsthand how vital it is to help families reach fair solutions without draining their resources.
